Jennifer + Andrew

Forest-fueled love blooms in the desert

Pennsylvania natives Jennifer Shumway and Andrew O'Brien met online, which they promise is much more romantic than it sounds. The pair formed a fast connection, thanks to an exchange of poetic Simon and Garfunkel lyrics and witty banter that helped them discover many commonalities like hiking and traveling. Sedona, Arizona, quickly became a meaningful destination for the two, and their "excellent experiences" at Amara made for an obvious wedding venue choice. They got married at Red Rock Crossing, against the beautiful backdrop of Cathedral Rock, in a joyous celebration that honored both families' heritages with Croatian and Irish customs.

Cocktail hour took place on the picturesque balcony of the Meditation room, overlooking the courtyard and enormous rock formations in the distance. The couple left out copies of their initial flirty email exchanges for guests' entertainment. Everyone involved raved about the Saltrock food, served family-style at long farm tables.

The wedding followed a captivating "forest" theme, with table décor featuring mushrooms, lichens, ferns and glass terrariums filled with moss and reclaimed branches (which also made for terrific party favors). Andrew wrote the vows, which were printed on organic paper and slipped on top of plate chargers. The naked wedding cake- a true "masterpiece"- was topped with frosted fruit, roses, fern and sedum.

"Our group met each morning at Saltrock for breakfast and in the courtyard at night for stargazing by the fire pits."

"There is no doubt we've become lifelong friends of the resort and look forward to many future trips back to our home away from home!"
