Sheron McGuire
Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist
Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher
Amara Spa’s Yoga Program Director Sheron McGuire has been practicing hatha yoga since 1989 and teaching since 1996. She has studied and practiced the Kripalu system of yoga exclusively since 1998, graduating with her KYTT certificate to teach in 2000. Sheron is also a 2005 graduate of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda.
In 2000, Sheron successfully ran her own school, YogAbundance, LLC, which included corporate clients such as Legg Mason, T.Rowe Price, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore County Police & Fire Departments, and Goucher College, as well as an extensive list of private students. In 2001 she released an instructional yoga cd: "YogAbundance, yoga for beginners and beyond" which has been well received and is available at Amazon.com, as well as the spa.
Sheron's approach to yoga is based on the belief that yoga traditions vary widely in their approaches, yet most teach the same basic yoga postures. These are unique attributes of Kripalu yoga:
| • |
Each class begins gently with an emphasis on being present in your body, sustaining a flowing breath and warming the body safely. |
| • |
It allows you to choose the level of physical intensity right for your body. |
| • |
It recognizes that every body is different. |
| • |
It activates the prana, or life force of the body. |
| • |
It encourages you to create a lifestyle supportive of your health by listening to your own body’s wisdom. |
| • |
It teaches you how to take your practice with you "off the mat." |
| • |
It offers practical tools to foster psychological and spiritual growth. |
| • |
It acknowledges that regular yoga practice is designed to initiate a process of personal transformation. |
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that translates to "Knowledge of life and longevity," and is rooted in principles and rhythms found everywhere in nature. Both Yoga and Ayurveda are sacred sciences based on the Vedic tradition of India. While yoga is the Vedic science of self-realization, Ayurveda is the Vedic science of healing for both body and mind. Traditionally it makes use of daily and seasonal lifestyle practices (including diet, yoga and meditation) as well as healing herbs, life affirming mental attitudes and purification therapies.
At Amara Spa, we are dedicated to nourishing you from the outside in, and from the inside out. To further explore what Yoga & Ayurveda can do for you, please contact Sheron for a private Ayurvedic consultation and yoga session.
